The Tragically Hip Named Ambassadors for Record Store Day Canada 2024, Set to Release Exclusive Live Album
The Tragically Hip has been honored as the Canadian Ambassadors for Record Store Day Canada 2024, and in celebration, the band will release a special live album titled "Live at CBGB’s" on April 20, 2024, coinciding with Record Store Day. Record Store Day, now in its 18th year, celebrates the culture of independent record stores worldwide.
Ryan Kerr, spokesperson for Record Store Day Canada, expressed excitement about the band's appointment, stating, "There are few bands that represent Canadiana, our traditions, values, and pastimes the way The Tragically Hip does." He added, "The band is woven into the fabric of our culture and the annals of our beloved rock radio with innumerable hits. Record Store Day Canada is overjoyed that The Tragically Hip will be our 2024 Canadian Ambassadors."
Previous Canadian Ambassadors have included Triumph, The Sheepdogs, and Our Lady Peace, while globally, Taylor Swift and Pearl Jam have held the title.
Fans of The Hip will undoubtedly be delighted by the announcement of a new live album. "Live at CBGB’s" features nine live tracks recorded on January 14, 1993, at a private event at the iconic New York City punk venue. This event marked the industry launch of The Tragically Hip’s third studio album, "Fully Completely," in America. The live recording will be available on April 20 as a 12” pink vinyl album with a limited run of pink cassettes at participating record stores in Canada and the US.
2024 holds special significance for the band as it marks the 40th anniversary of the beginning of their illustrious career. To honor The Hip's legacy, 2024 will see a year-long celebration, including a deluxe package of their breakthrough album, "Up To Here," continuing a series of special deluxe packages released in recent years.
