Dolly Parton is showing understanding towards Elle King despite the recent incident at the Grand Ole Opry.
After King's candid admission of being "f---ing hammered" and forgetting lyrics to Dolly Parton's "Marry Me" during a Grand Ole Opry performance, the iconic "Jolene" singer has come forward in support of King.
"Elle is really a great artist," Parton expressed in an interview with Extra. "She’s a great girl, and she’s been going through a lot lately." Parton emphasized, "She just had a little too much to drink, so let’s just forgive that and forget it and move on, 'cause she felt worse than anyone ever could."
During the Jan. 19 concert, which was part of Parton's 78th birthday celebration at the Ryman Auditorium, King was seen interacting with the audience and addressing refunds in several TikTok videos. She seemed to be struggling with the lyrics to "Marry Me" and made improvisational remarks about it.
Despite the incident, Parton's response reflects empathy and understanding towards King's situation.
While King's representatives have not issued any comments regarding the incident, the Grand Ole Opry addressed fan concerns on X (formerly Twitter) the following day, expressing regret for the language used during King's performance.
King, who is also a mother to 2-year-old Lucky Levi, previously shared insights into her nerves before performing, explaining that having a drink helps ease her anxiety. She emphasized the priority she places on motherhood above all else.
